On 30 April, the World Health Organisation listed the Moderna vaccine for emergency use. The Moderna Covid-19 Vaccines have an efficacy of 94.1% in protection against COVID-19,

ModernaTX.Inc created this vaccine for people who are 12 years of age or older. This Covid-19 vaccine comes in 2 doses to give complete protection. The doses are given to the people one month apart.

People getting vaccinated may develop some temporary side effects, which can last a few hours to a few days after vaccination. It is actually the body’s natural response, as they are working hard to build protection against the disease.

Redness, soreness, and swelling are the symptoms that a person may experience at the injection site after taking the vaccine. On the other hand, they may also experience few flu-like symptoms after taking the vaccine, such as headache, mild fever, joint pain, and fatigue.

Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine

Johnson & Johnson uses the S protein gene in an inactivated cold virus to make their vaccine candidate Ad26.COV2.S. They have used the same technology in the Ebola vaccine, used in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Unlike the other Covid-19 vaccines, Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine requires only one dose and can be stored in a standard refrigerator. FDA first authorised the vaccine in February 2021 for people 18 years of age or older.

People who received this vaccine most likely need a booster shot in the future, although the FDA has not yet authorised it. Unfortunately, some people who received this vaccine developed a rare but severe blood clot along with a low platelet count within three weeks of vaccination.

Therefore, this Covid-19 vaccine now comes with a warning message about the chances of developing blood clots and low platelet count within 1 to 2 weeks after vaccination.

Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine

Novavax’s Covid-19 vaccine is an adjuvanted protein-based vaccine using the company’s proprietary saponin-based adjuvant. All people who decide to take this vaccine need to take two doses spaced 21 days apart.

This vaccine is 90% effective against the COVID-19 virus, and 100% effective against moderate and severe COVID-19 virus as per the results of the third phase trials carried out in the US and Mexico.

All vaccines come with side effects, so people taking this vaccine also experience few side effects like headache, joint pain, fatigue, and pain & soreness at the injection site.

Furthermore, the phase III trial also showed that the vaccine was 96% effective against the original virus strain and 86% against Alpha. However, the vaccine was only about 49% effective against the Beta variant.

In November 2020, Pfizer-BioNTech announced the results of an independent analysis of their BNT162b2 vaccine phase III trial that showed that this vaccine is absolutely safe and 95% effective in preventing the COVID-19 virus.

The FDA authorised this Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use in December 2020. Furthermore, EUA was extended to ages 12 to 15 in May 2021. Last month, the FDA gave the final approval of using this Covid-19 vaccine on people 16 years of age or above.

This exceptional vaccine uses genetic material known as messenger RNA (mRNA) to encode the virus’s spike protein (S protein) and eventually stimulate the immune system against the novel Coronavirus.

Several types of research suggest that by taking Pfizer protection from the COVID-19 virus could last a year or longer. However, several variants of Coronavirus, including the COVID-19 Delta variant, have mutations in the S protein that can hamper the vaccine effectiveness.

Covaxin By Bharat Biotech

According to Bharat Biotech, Covaxin (BBV152), which is developed and authorised for emergency use in India, was shown to be approximately 81% effective at preventing Coronavirus in an interim analysis.

The initial test data are assessed from a trial that was done on 25,800 people between 18-98 years. Furthermore, the third phase trial includes 2,433 people over 60 years and 4,500 who have comorbidities.

As per the research, scientists have found that it is recommended to take the 2nd dose of Covaxin in 4 to 6 weeks from the 1st dose.

After taking Covaxin, people can experience extreme pain at the injection site, and there may be swelling or redness. Moreover, people can also feel dizziness, along with rashes occurring all over the body.
